Unable to login with kdm after upgrade

Two weeks ago I decided to upgrade to kde 4.2. Everything went fine.. well almost… I managed to login to new kde once and later made some mess (btw. new kde looks very nice). I didn’t use any upgrade guide and for some reason I was unable to log in through KDM (but loging using xdm was still working).

Only suspicious errors in logs were
[config/dbus] couldn’t register object path

Most straightforward option for me seemed to be downgrading again to kde 3.5.9, but after that problem still occured and is described here and here.

Before you try above solutions first create new user (with no files in his HOME directory) and try to log in onto his account. If this works then the cause of your problem is some old/wrong config files in $HOME.

Unfortunately I don’t know which file was causing problem in my case but for sure it was not any file from .kde* directory (and previously only that files I had checked)

…almost three weeks of using xdm… (additionaly “turn off” option also dissapeard so in order to shutdown system I had to “poweroff” from root (saving session in kde obviously does not work in that case)).

Having that fixed I’m going to try on kde 4.2 soon again.

Custom navigation provider in – Sharepoint gives shity errors – part 1

Did you received one of following errors in Sharepoint?

The DataSourceID of 'TopNavigationMenu' must be the ID of a control of type IHierarchicalDataSource. A control with ID 'topSiteMap' could not be found.

Exception message: The DataSourceID of 'QuickLaunchMenu' must be the ID of a control of type IHierarchicalDataSource.  A control with ID 'QuickLaunchSiteMap' could not be found.

As You propably already find out.. this error is very likely to have  nothing in common with masterpages or layouts..

In my case error occured immediately after adding my custom navigation provider to web.config (without even using it!)

What was wrong? Assembly in which was provider was signed and I was not using full assembly string in web.config. Argh.. sometimes I hate sharepoint..

(beside that SafeControl entry is of course also needed)

If above solution does not work in your case try googling more.. a couple of other things causes above errors to appear.

ASP.NET v2.0.50727 missing from Web Services Extensions in IIS Manager

You are after fresh install and can’t find 2.0 in Web Service Extensions in IIS?

This is connected with order of installing IIS and .NET framework.

If you already installed both of them the quickest sollution is:

Quick sollution is:

cd C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727>
aspnet_regiis.exe – i

Restart should not be required.

Amarok ebuild cannot find ruby

Recently I tried to install amarok on a fresh system and after build i couldn’t find amarok executable file!
>>> media-sound/amarok-1.4.10 merged.
>>> Recording media-sound/amarok in “world” favorites file…
After small sniffing I found in the middle of a build log following errors:

checking for ruby… /usr/bin/ruby
/usr/bin/ruby: no such file to load — auto_gem (LoadError)
/usr/bin/ruby: no such file to load — auto_gem (LoadError)
checking ruby.h usability… no
checking ruby.h presence… no
checking for ruby.h… no

checking if amarok should be compiled… no

= The Ruby programming language is not installed. Please obtain Ruby
= (version 1.8 or later) from, or install a distribution
= package. To build Amarok requires the Ruby header files as well, which some
= distributions package separately.

= Some mandatory dependencies are either not installed or not installed
= correctly. See the Amarok README for help with this issue. Further assistance
= can be found at or in amarok on
= You will still be able to build other modules from extragear/multimedia.

Obviously I had ruby installed as it is amarok dependency.
I had no time to look into this, but quick sollution is to
emerge rubygems

Unable to update-eix

Reading Portage settings ..

[0] “gentoo” /usr/portage/ (cache: metadata-flat)
Reading 50%terminate called after throwing an instance of ‘std::out_of_range’
what(): basic_string::compare

This is a bug in eix which has already been fixed in 0.13.5 version. So all you have to do is to update to that version (it’s still masked).

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=”~x86″ emerge =eix-0.13.5 -av

In case you want to patch your version by yourself patch is avaible here.
